There’s the Team!
Kelly beating her competition in the pool –
Jason coming in strong on the bike –
And Mike finishing off the run –
In one of the event’s more surprising twists, he BEAT A TWO-TIME OLYMPIC ATHLETE!!!!
Yeah, you deserve that smile. How ’bout them apples??
The team was enthusiastically cheered on by their massive athletic supporters.
All sporting the team decal:
After everyone recovered from the initial round of excitement, it was time for the kids. Yes, the kids did it too!
Naia bouncing like a bunny down the track, taking THIRD in her age group –
Gabriel sweeping in from the pool, just before starting his joy ride –
Jake poised at the pool, checking out the competition –
And later bringing it home with Dad –
I don’t have a picture of Eli doing the bike (I was at the pool with Jake), but here he is warming up with the jump rope:
I never would have thought that one day, I would be watching my whole family do a triathalon. To clarify, this was not an Ironman. NO! Far from it. But how wonderful it is to see kids and adults of all ages, at all levels of fitness, going out and being active, and competing not to win a crazy race but just to have fun and see how they do. Is this an Africa thing? Do they do this everywhere? Or is this just something I never noticed as a non-sportsmen, and now that I’ve married a sporty guy and born apparently sporty offspring, am finally seeing for the first time? So many layers of life still left to be explored. I guess that’s why we live so many years so that if we want to, we have time to explore them all. And maybe even BEAT an Olympic athlete! What a fun weekend!!
Thanks Bennetts for being our TEAM!!
