I want to remember this moment. This moment when my kids are outside building a beaver dam out of sticks, and the sun is shining, and the poinsettia tree is blooming beside them even though it’s May. I want to remember the sweet way they still hold our hands when we go out for walks, and the way we can still make them feel better by giving a hug and saying I Love You. I want to remember the flowers in our garden and the cinnamon rolls we had for breakfast, and the way Jake and Eli cover the kitchen floor with drawings of castles and animals while we wash the dishes. I want to remember champagne at the Bennetts and an afternoon in the pool, and the balmy way we all feel like we’re on vacation without going anywhere. We will sip Campari, discuss the fate of the world, maybe later watch a little Scooby Doo, and wish that all of our weekends could be like these.
