Be My Valentine
I love Valentine’s Day! Ever since I became an adult and have a real Valentine, whom I love and that I get to keep :). It’s also fun to make things shaped like hearts and colored pink. And frosting. Frosting is really fun when you are six years old. Here are Jake and Eli enjoying blue frosting graham crackers:
I think what makes or Valentine’s Day happy is that there is no pressure. We are simple people. Look, Mike brought me flowers!
And made guacamole!
Valentine’s Day dinner has always been Gourmet Burgers. This is because Eli, Jake, and I all have birthdays in February, and it seemed like Mike should get a night to choose his favorite dinner too. We make them special with blue cheese, mushrooms, carmelized onions, cheddar, ketchup, or whatever we want. The ground beef in Zambia is called “mince,” and it’s a little weird. No matter how long it’s cooked, it always stays pink. ??
They taste okay, but the meat is also pre-seasoned and we can never get the salt right. These last ones were really salty! And there is always a hint of coriander… And pink. Oh well. When in Zambia, do as the Zambians do.
While we were in the kitchen sauteing onions and mashing avocados, Eli and Jake were making us Valentines:
Mommy and Daddy were sharing a bottle. It may be from Trader Joe’s, but this red zinfandel is soooo good:
I made an attempt at Napoleans, Mike’s favorite, for dessert. They were a little rustic but they tasted good! At least that’s what Eli, Jake, Mike, and Miss Hilda said :).
Happy Valentine’s Day Sweetie!!!!
