Ballard Locks and the Fish Ladder
Seattle is so cool for so many reasons! Who else has fish ladders?
And huge boats?
And trains rolling over a drawbridge?
All in one beautiful park, adorned with modern art?
Yes, we are back in Seattle. I could tell the minute we got on the plane, by the number of our fellow travelers wearing fleeces with Snapples awkwardly stuffed in their pockets. It is nice!!
The locks were busy today, and Eli and Jake were entranced by the water, the whistles, the ships, and the seagulls. There was even a seal splashing around waiting for the salmon!
We met a family who was waving good-bye to one of the fishing boats, on its way to three months of salmon fishing up in Alaska. We recognized the boat, it looked just like The Deadliest Catch. All of us agreed we were glad we weren’t on that boat! The drawbridge raised and everyone waved good-bye.
Here is an artist’s rendition of the Fish Ladder:
Down under the water, it was so cool! It is time for the annual salmon migration, and the water was full of silver.
It is nice to be in a place again where nature is revered and respected. Where there are garbage cans and clean water fountains, and where the air is so CLEAN. America isn’t perfect, but it does a lot of things right. Especially Seattle. Where is my fleece??
